Margo Arsane is a French mezzo-soprano from Lyon.
In the season 2022-23, Margo makes her debut at Opéra national de Lorraine as Sméraldine in Prokofiev’s The Love for Three Oranges, and at St John Smith Square London as Lisetta Il Mondo della Luna (Fool Moon) with Bampton Opera. She will also make her English Touring Opera debut as SESTO Giulio Cesare and cover ORSINI Lucrezia Borgia.
She was an Emerging Artist at Scottish Opera and a Young Artist at Opéra National de Lyon for the season 2020-21.
In the season 2021-22, Margo returned as DORABELLA Cosi fan tutte at Scottish Opera and toured Scotland in Opera Highlights. She made her debut as L’ENFANT in Ravel’s L’Enfant et les Sortilèges at Landestheater Coburg, and performed the title-role in the world premiere of Raising Icarus by Michael Zev Gordon at the Barber Institute Birmingham.
As an Emerging Artist at Scottish Opera, she performed as DORABELLA in a filmed production of Cosi fan tutte, covered HANSEL Hansel and Gretel and MEG PAGE Falstaff in David McVicar’s production, and recorded Chausson’s Poème de l’amour et de la mer with the Scottish Opera Orchestra.
Margo’s engagements for 2020 included L’ENFANT L’Enfant et les Sortilèges Opéra de Lyon, ZERLINA Don Giovanni directed by Sir Thomas Allen, PAGE OF HERODIAS Salome at the Philharmonie de Paris under Mikko Frank alongside Waltraud Meier, Camilla Nylund and Matthias Goerne, ZAIDA Il Turco in Italia with Scherzo Ensemble London. Unfortunately these engagements got cancelled due to COVID restrictions,
Recent engagements include: SMERALDINE and LINETTE L’amour des trois oranges at Opéra National de Lorraine, Sesto Giulio Cesare English Touring Opera, CLIMENE and PREMIER AMOUR Lully-Moliere’s Les Amants Magnifiques Le Concert Spirituel with Hervé Niquet on tour to Opéra d’Avignon, Opéra de Rennes, Opéra de Massy, Opéra de Reims, Opéra de Limoges and Atelier Lyrique de Tourcoing, SESTO cover Handel’s Giulio Cesare in Egitto Opera North, ROSINA Il barbiere di SivigliaScherzo Ensemble and CHERUBINO Le nozze di Figaro Dartington Festival.
After studying the violin for 15 years, Margo trained at the CNSMD in Lyon, Hochschule für Musik Munich, Guildhall School of Music and Drama, and National Opera Studio in London.
She has won several prizes at international competitions:
- Mozarteum Sommerakademie Wettbewerb 2013 (1st prize),
- Special Prize at the International Voice Competition 2014 in Marmande,
- “Young Hope” Prize at the Concours International de Chant de Clermont-Ferrand 2013, and was a semi-finalist at the Paris Opera Competition 2021.
Margo has also been a Young Artist for the Peace and Prosperity Trust since 2016, a charity which works towards building bridges between the Middle East and the West and promoting peace through the universal language of music.
